Plaza-Midwood is Charlotte's most diverse streetcar-era neighborhood. Under tall trees planted in the 1910's, there is now an unusually diverse array of houses with architectural influences ranging from bungalow to ranch, and historic to contemporary. Just minutes from Uptown, this area continues it's tradition as a commuter's dream.
In 1912, The Plaza was a narrow dirt road, surrounded on both sides by a large strawberry farm. Its earliest avenues were platted in 1903 and its most recent support the urban infill developments begun in the '90s and continuing today. The introduction of the trolley spawned the idea of a residential commuters' development here, and its proximity to Uptown continues to draw urban professionals and families today.
Plaza-Midwood's convenient location, well-established business district, prestigious country club and pride of neighborhood certainly makes this an area worth checking out.
